California Probate and Trust publishes educational information about California trusts, estate planning, long-term care, Medi-Cal, and related legal subjects. It is general information, not legal advice for a particular person or matter.

Who publishes and reviews our content

A page identifies an individual author only when that person wrote or substantively approved it. Older archive material whose individual authorship has not been verified is attributed to California Probate and Trust as publisher. “Reviewed by Dustin MacFarlane” appears only after an actual attorney review.

Sources and legal accuracy

For current legal and public-benefit guidance, we prefer primary authorities such as California statutes and cases, California courts, the Department of Health Care Services, the Franchise Tax Board, the IRS, Medicare, and other responsible government sources. Articles should distinguish existing rules from proposals and should state the date through which time-sensitive guidance was reviewed.

Use of technology

Technology, including automated and AI-assisted tools, may help with research organization, drafting, formatting, link checking, and technical publishing. It does not replace source verification or professional judgment. We do not label a page as attorney-reviewed unless that review actually occurred. Titles, descriptions, structured data, links, and image alternative text are checked for accuracy and must describe what a visitor actually receives.

Updates and corrections

Material legal updates receive a visible updated date when the page is substantively revised. We do not change dates merely to make old content appear fresh. If you identify an error, please use our contact page and include the page URL and the issue. We will review substantiated corrections promptly.

Editorial scope

Our primary editorial focus is California trusts, living-trust funding and administration, Medi-Cal and long-term-care planning, incapacity planning, and asset preservation. Material outside that scope may be excluded from Search or retired when it does not provide meaningful value to our audience.
